Ekadashi Tithi 2024
Ekadashi fasting method :
Follow complete celibacy on the night of Dashami and also stay away from indulgences. Do not use wooden teeth and paste on Ekadashi in the morning ; Chew the leaves of lemon, jamun or mango and clean the throat with the finger. It is also forbidden to pluck a leaf from a tree, so eat the fallen leaves yourself. If this is not possible, then do twelve rinses with water.
Then go to the temple after taking bath and recite Gita or listen to the priest. One should vow in front of GOD like this: ‘ Today I will not talk to a thief, a hypocrite and a wicked man, nor will I hurt anyone’s heart. I will please cows, Brahmins etc. by giving them fruits and grains. I will wake up at night and do kirtan.
” Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya “ I will chant this twelfth letter mantra or gurumantra, I will make Vishnu Sahasranama like Ram, Krishna, Narayan etc. ‘ – By taking such a vow, remember Lord Vishnu and pray that: ‘ O Trilokapati ! My shame is in your hands, so give me the strength to fulfill this vow. Silence, chanting, scripture reading, kirtan, night awakening bring special benefits in Ekadashi fasting.
Do not drink drinks made from impure liquids on Ekadashi. Do not drink cold drinks, canned fruit juices with acid etc. Do not eat two meals . Do not eat ice cream and fried food . Staying on fruits or fruit juice extracted at home or on some milk or water is especially beneficial. Fasting (Dashami, Ekadashi and Dwadashi) – During these three days, bronze utensils, meat, onion, garlic, lentils, urad, gram, kodo (a type of paddy), herb , honey, oil and atyambupan (consumption of more water) ) – Do not consume them. On the first day of the fast (on Dashami) and on the second day (on Dwadashi) Havishyan (barley,Take one meal of wheat, moong, rock salt, black pepper, sugar and cowpea etc.).
Cabbage, carrot, turnip, spinach, Kulfa greens etc. should not be consumed by the fruit-eater. Amrut fruits like mango, grapes, banana, almond, pistachio etc. should be consumed.
One should stay away from gambling, sleep, drinking, foreign blasphemy, slander, theft, violence, sex, anger and other misdeeds like lies, deceit etc. Do not ride on the back of a bull.
If you accidentally talk to a slanderer, then to remove this defect, you should ask for forgiveness after seeing Lord Surya and worshiping Shri Hari with incense lamp. Do not sweep the house on the day of Ekadashi, as there is a fear of death of micro-organisms like ant etc. Do not get a haircut on this day . Speak sweetly, do n’t speak too much, unspeakable words also come out by speaking too much. One must always speak the truth . Donate food as much as you can on this day, but never take food given by yourself. Everything should be accepted by offering to GOD and leaving Tulsi dal.
If a relative dies on the day of Ekadashi, then by keeping a fast on that day, the result should be given to the deceased, and even if flowers (bones) are flown in Sri Gangaji, fasting on Ekadashi fasting should be given for the sake of the creature. One should not deceive anyone by considering the creature as the incarnation of the inner being. Do not get angry even after forgetting to insult yourself or speak bitter words. The fruit of contentment is always sweet. You should have compassion in your heart. One who fasts by this method gets the best results. On the day of Dwadashi, brahmins should be pleased with sweets, dakshina, etc. and circumambulate them.
Method of breaking the fast :
Fourteen pieces of seven roasted gram should be thrown behind your head while sitting at the place of worship on Dwadashi. Having the feeling that ‘ the physical , verbal and mental sins of my seven births have been destroyed ‘ , one should break the fast by drinking seven anjali water and eating seven grains of gram.
